Counselor Expectations
(An evaluation will be submitted to your high school based on the following criteria)
Cabins
- Positive Role Model
- Appropriate topics of discussion and language are essential
- Enforce our rules
- All cell phones, candy, food, or gum MUST stay in the counselor’s room at ALL times
- Any medications? Please see the nurse
- Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School Teachers, Principal or Nurses
Classes and Hikes
- Positive Role Model
- Keep students focused on the Outdoor School Teacher and the activity
- Communicate concerns to the teacher
- Enforce our rules and supports the instructor
Recreation Time
- Positive Role Model
- Student Centered activities
- Be certain to disperse amongst students
- Appropriate levels of competitiveness
- Enforce our rules
- Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School teacher, Principal or Nurse as they arise, not well after the fact
Meal Time
- Positive Role Model
- Table manners, topics of discussion and language
- Remain in your seat throughout the meal
- Enforce our rules
- Help teachers get students quiet by raising hand
- ORGANIZE and OVERSEE clean-up at the table
- Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School teacher, Principal or Nurse as they arise.
Night Activities
- Positive Role Model
- Dressed appropriately for the weather
- Enforce our Rules
- Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School teacher, Principal or Nurse as they arise.
- Focus on students and activities, not other counselors.
