Counselor Expectations

(An evaluation will be submitted to your high school based on the following criteria)

Cabins

  • Positive Role Model
    • Appropriate topics of discussion and language are essential
  • Enforce our rules
    • All cell phones, candy, food, or gum MUST stay in the counselor’s room at ALL times
    • Any medications? Please see the nurse
  • Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School Teachers, Principal or Nurses

Classes and Hikes

  • Positive Role Model
  • Keep students focused on the Outdoor School Teacher and the activity
  • Communicate concerns to the teacher
  • Enforce our rules and supports the instructor

Recreation Time

  • Positive Role Model
    • Student Centered activities
    • Be certain to disperse amongst students
    • Appropriate levels of competitiveness
  • Enforce our rules
  • Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School teacher, Principal or Nurse as they arise, not well after the fact

Meal Time

  • Positive Role Model
    • Table manners, topics of discussion and language
  • Remain in your seat throughout the meal
  • Enforce our rules
    • Help teachers get students quiet by raising hand 
  • ORGANIZE and OVERSEE clean-up at the table
  • Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School teacher, Principal or Nurse as they arise.

Night Activities

  • Positive Role Model
    • Dressed appropriately for the weather
  • Enforce our Rules
  • Communicate concerns to the Outdoor School teacher, Principal or Nurse as they arise.
  • Focus on students and activities, not other counselors.
